cap hpi reveals the 10 sports cars with the lowest Total cost of ownership

When it comes to speed and style, slipping behind the wheel of a sports car is hard to beat. The latest analysis from cap hpi looks at the total cost of ownership (TCO) to reveal the 10 sports cars with the lowest motoring costs over the first 3 years. Once all the servicing, fuel and other motoring costs are taken into account, which cars perform the best?

The Audi TT Coupe 1.8FSI sports 2DR has the lowest total cost of ownership, starting from £17,184.21, followed by the Toyota GT86 Coupe at £17,504 and the Subaru BRZ Coupe at £18,136.

Audi TT Coupe also has the lowest monthly running cost of £477.34, helping it secure the lowest TCO. Once again the Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ take second and third, respectively on monthly running costs.

However, the Audi S3 A3 Hatchback has the lowest overall service and maintenance costs, standing at just £302, per month. But Audi also take second and third place with the TT Coupe and TT Coupe Diesel, with service and maintenance costs at £313 and £315, respectively. It’s a clean sweep for Audi with the S5 Sportback being the fourth lowest on £361, with the Ford Mustang Fastback coming in fifth on £964.

When it comes to fuel costs, the Audi TT Coupe Diesel comes in lowest at £2,345, followed by the petrol version on £3156. The Audi S3 Hatchback is the third lowest on fuel at £3,679, whilst the Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ come in joint fourth at £4,06.

Philip Nothard, cap hpi consumer and retail editor, comments, “When it comes to the evaluating the 10 sports cars with the lowest total cost of ownership, for the first 3 years from new, our research shows that the Audi TT Coupe is the lowest.

“Owning a sports car comes with a heavier price tag than some of the other categories of cars, however, some vehicles offer competitive ownership costs in terms of service and maintenance, whilst others offer more economical monthly running costs or fuel costs. Our top ten cars show that sports cars pay their way, as they all offer advantages over the rest of the marketplace.”
